Training dog tips anyone???
Posted on Jan 28, 2008 under dog training tips |
I want to train my dogs. Not like sit, lay, and shake, but harder stuff like roll over! I don't want to take them to a trainer though, I want to do it myself.
Try using dry cereal. To make your dog rollover tell him to lay down, put the cookie by her nose. Then move the cookie in the posistion your dog would rollover in. Tell your dog to roll over and if yout dog dose give it the cookie. I trained my dogs using that.

1. Kisses: put some butter or pb on the back of your hand and say "kisses!" let the dog lick it off. Cut back on the treat and eventually the dogs will be giving kisses on command.
2. The "Bang bang" trick. Take this in steps. Pretend to shoot the dog (form your hand in the shape of a gun, pointing your finger out) say "bang" and then "sit" and do this over and over until he gets that bang means sit. Then, while the dog is sitting, say "bang" "down" (or lay or drop or w/e u use for that). keep doing that after you get the dog to sit. Then try it standing to sitting and laying with the bang commands themselves. end with the dog on its side or belly. Make sure he understands all the prior tricks first (like sit, down, and over)
3. Crawl: drag a treat along the floor and use the command crawl.
With any trick, just be consistant, and use the same word all the time, and each word should have only one meaning (exception would be the bang thing i suppose… but if its smart enough to catch on) If the dog doesnt understand after u say it twice, force it to do the motion, so it gets the idea. Oh, and when it does something right, say "good [insert command here]"

you can look online for various tricks and also buy a clicker and some good treats. it makes it a little more fun to learn when they are being rewarded.
